LONGEVITY TIPS
- Keep your oil relatively clean and adequately
changed or your oil filter may become clogged. When this occurs, a
bypass valve in the filter permits dirty oil to lubricate the engine because it
is better to give the engine some lubrication rather than none at all.
Unfortunately, this dirty oil will cause premature part wear or failure due to
abrasion. It is important to regularly change the oil filter before the oil
becomes too thick and dirty, otherwise, tremendous engine wear will occur.
DO NOT LET YOUR OIL FILTER BECOME CLOGGED AND
DIRTY.
- Use a high quality, nationally advertised, brand
name oil filter or vehicle manufacturer's replacement part. Do not
attempt to save money with an inexpensive oil filter.
- Consider replacing a standard-sized oil filter with
one of greater capacity if driving predominantly in dusty or dirty environments.
The larger filter will clean the oil more thoroughly and will minimize the
chances of becoming clogged.
